Earth Day Events in New York City

Earth Day in New York City, April 22, 2013
Earth Day Events in New York City

On April 22, 1970, in response to widespread environmental degradation, Gaylord Nelson, a United States Senator from Wisconsin, called for an environmental teach-in, or Earth Day. Over 20 million people participated that year, and Earth Day is now observed each year on April 22 by more than 500 million people and national governments in 175 countries.

New York City Earth Day 2014 Events

Earth Day in Union Square

Union Square has a long history with the Earth Day movement so we're happy to be returning. The events will include live performances, our green-vehicle runway and exhibition, and exhibits and displays by local and national environmental organizations, local businesses, and corporate partners. The events in Union Square begin with out CO2 E Drive and green-vehicle runway show, which highlight a wide range of vehicles including vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and the City of New York's own green fleet.
The green-vehicle runway show is followed by a green-vehicle exhibition, live performances, dozens of exhibits, and family-friendly activities. The events are all free to attend and open to the public.
